You'll have to take the tour for this one, guys and gals. The glorious caves in the Wells hillside hold the interiors to Herne's cave so get your comfy shoes on, flex your legs and get up the hill.
It's really difficult to actually take photo's when on the tour so make sure you've got a camera with a darn good flash on it because the ambient lights they have drifting in and out will drive you potty. Once you've had the introductory speech from the tour guide, you're taken down some steep steps and into the Witch's Kitchen, that legend has it a witch lived in for many years, feared by the locals. This 'room' was used extensively in Robin of Sherwood for the interior to Herne's cave. The place where you stand on the tour is above where Herne had his table set up in the show.

The rest of the tour is fascinating and well worth the trip. There is some great chambers down there that really blow you away, namely the Cathedral Chamber, which is as high as it is deep. If you continue on, you'll get to the area where they store the cheese. What, I hear you say? Yep, the cheese. Big wheels of cheese are matured down there due to its constant all year round temperature of 11 degrees (see, I was paying attention).
As at Lacock, the tour guide is fast to tell you about filming for Harry Potter and Dr Who, believe it or not, but for some reason, Robin of Sherwood never makes it into any of the information provided on the location. The tour is over as quickly as it begun.
