Used in episodes:
- Robin Hood and the Sorcerer
- Swords of Wayland
Take a deep breath and look at this awe inspiring building. We must have stood here for ten minutes or more, just marvelling at the ediface before us.
The Robin of Sherwood crew was only here to film the Chapter House and the steps up to the Chapter House but it is easy to love this building for the shear architecture. The view that greats you after you walk in takes your breath away, the intricate ceiling, the defined columns, the size of the building itself. As we found out, if you want to take your camera, you'll need to buy a photo license from the small desk (it's only £3.50 or so but well worth it).
"..it is easy to love this building for the shear architecture.."
Take a walk around to the left and down past the organ, you'll see the door to the Chapter House stes on your left as you pass the clock. Step through and you'll be faced with the infamous steps in Nottingham Castle for Robin Hood and the Sorcerer. These were also used for the steps down into Ravenscar Abbey crypt. Speaking of the crypt for that episode, it was not filmed here. The only 'crypt' type place in Wells is the undercroft, underneath the Chapter House which is only about a foot high. The crypt for the episode of The Swords of Wayland was built on a studio soundstage.Walk in the footsteps of Michael Praed and ascend the stairs to the Chapter House on the right (where Marions bedroom door was in the pilot episode). You'll recognise this room from the The Swords of Wayland as the room where Morgwyn of Ravenscar interogated Adam the Miller for his part in the failed raid as a Hound of Lucifer on the village of Uffcombe. As we always say, don't forget to look up! The ceiling here is wonderful.
Visit over, we left Wells for our next location.
