Here we have an excellent location visit, by an avid ROS fan, André Weber.
Parking up at the Rinsey Cliffs car park, the filming location for the Swords of Wayland is only a 3 minute walk away.
The reports from Andre is that “The plateau that was shot is quite small, in the series it looks much bigger. However, it was a great feeling to sit on the same stone as Robin!”
"..the plateau is quite small."
Hopefully, as you can see from the images André has taken, the locations they used for the various shots of Robin climbing back up, the Merry Men taking a stroll to Morgwyn towing Robin, Herne's appearance, are all still instantly recognisable today.
Just like old architecture that still stands the test of time, the cliffs at Rinsey seem to be weathering the storms of nature very well.
André's report:
Rinsey is a tiny village in Cornwall, west of Helston. The filming location is very easy to find. Just turn left in Ashton and follow the signs to the car park at the sea. There is a beautiful beach between the car park and the cliffs, though it is rather secluded and might never be crowded. On the small coastal path to the beach you can already see the cliffs in the background.
The plateau on which all the cliff sequences were filmed is quite small (as usual on TV everything looks much bigger) and I reckon the camera man just had to turn around himself to shoot most of the scenes. For me all the rocks and cliffs were instantly recognizable from the series. In particular the specific rock on which Robin sat to relax after climbing up the cliffs. It was a great feeling to sit on this stone as well.
Our thanks to André for his excellent report and visit. Remember, anyone visiting a location can, with pleasure, contact us and and we'll put up their information for all other fans.
