Used in episodes:
- Robin Hood and Sorcerer
Nestled in the woods at the bottom of long access walk lies Brinkburn Priory, a small but perfectly formed piece of 12 Century architecture. It was here that we discovered the cleverness of the filming crew and their ability to change a camera angle and make the same building look like a different place.
Walking inside the main building, the scene instantly grabs you. Close your eyes and you can visualise the Sheriff, Abbott Hugo and the Baron De Belleme discussing Marion's 'future'. The stain glass windows that acted as the backdrop for that scene are wonderful.
Cleverly, the camera angle removes the main 'hall' and takes in the side area looking down towards the main door with the columns on the left.
"..you can visualise the Sheriff, Abbott Hugo and the Baron De Belleme.."
Moving through the other door (the one that the Sheriff and the others came through during the episode), takes you out into the mini cloisters at the back. You can see these in the episode after the Silver Arrow contest where they are walking with their cloaks blowing in the breeze and a monk walking around. This outer area was also used for the cloisters at Kirklees Abbey.
The main door that Tuck knocks on in the episode, and the subsequent wall that surrounded it, is not there anymore despite a hardy walk around the grounds. Still, not disappointed, we left this beautiful priory.
