Robin of Sherwood Bamburgh Castle location title

Used in episodes:
Robin Hood and Sorcerer

Bamburgh Castle seemingly rises from the sea, viewed from the road. Another fine example of castle architecture used for Robin of Sherwood.

Bamburgh was, as fans probably know, used for the home of the evil Baron De Belleme and his nasty goings on.

The exterior of the outer bailey was used primarily for the battle scene at the end of the second part to Robin Hood and the Sorcerer with camera angles that took in the Norman Keep and the gate leading to the lighthouse. What is not evident on the location lists available on the internet is that there is another location used for the the first part of episode one.

"..if you watch Robin of Sherwood closely you'll recognise it ... look up when you're in this room.

We might have missed it too if we hadn't taken the tour of the inside of the castle. Once inside the main bed chamber, you descend some stairs to the right of the door you came in. At the bottom of the stairs you go left into a room with columns and steps at the other side of the room. Take my advice, if you watch Robin of Sherwood closely you'll recognise it ... look up when you're in this room. The ceiling and columns are unmistakeable. This room was used as the guardroom at Nottingham Castle during the escape of the prisoners, where Much fought the drunken guard. The large chains you see in the episode by the door they run out of are still there. Bamburgh Castle exterior view
