August 2011 - Trail of Robin of Sherwood - Location update
We have a new location added to the database. Rinsey Cliffs used in the episode of The Swords of Wayland
has been visted by a fan that has contacted us, André Weber. He has kindly sent through images he took whilst on location and we are proud to
add them to our pages.
Thanks André.
OCTOBER 2009 - Castle Coombe and Blaise Castle Estate - Latest news
Hi all Robin of Sherwood fans!
In a fit of madness in the cold October temperatures, we decided to go on a mad 'one day' jaunt back to the Wiltshire and Somerset area to get a better grasp of the two locations; Blaise Castle and Castle Coombe. Armed with a tent, a gas ring and several layers of clothes we drove down and gathered as much information as we could on the day. Eventually, we wound up at Stonehenge and took several photos there too (just for our own personal gratification). Check out our new updated pages to see more of the locations.
Trail of Robin of Sherwood DVD - UPDATE
I am sad to report that our DVD production of all our location visits has taken a turn for the worse.
We have tried, in vain, to get Goldcrest Productions to grant us permission to use original Robin of Sherwood footage and music within our DVD but have hit brick walls at every occasion.
It seems that, because we are not a large distributor or production company with a giant budget, we are not allowed to use any of the origianl copyrighted material. The Goldcrest board has declined to return any of our communications to them asking for permission and so, as a result, we are now going to be integrating it into our site as part of our grand redesign for the New Year. So, as a Robin of Sherwood fan, you'll be able to view all the individual site visits directly in a higher resolution format. So keep your eyes peeled for it!
Our Omissions!
The following is the list of the Robin of Sherwood location places that we couldn't get to / weren't there any more or should never have been on anyone's list in the first place. Hopefully this might clear up a few queries with the lists of locations that exist out there on the WWW.
| Alnwick Castle - Dungeon scenes: | The dungeon set is NOT here. We asked the Mark Ryan and Kip Carpenter at the Legend Convention 2008 and they said that it was a set. |
| Azimghar Barracks - Clun Blood Arena: | Owing to the fact that the Clun Castle Blood Arena is located on military barracks, we decided to not even try! |
| Barton Hill Trading Estate - Various: | Sound stage that was dismantled from the Robin of Sherwood sets long ago. |
| Bodium Castle, Sussex - Exterior Huntingdon Castle: | Couldn't get there in our time frame. We might venture over that way some day! |
| Brent Castle: | What?!? Where?!?! Doesn't exist as far as we can see. |
| Farleigh Hungerford Castle - King Richards Chamber: | It isn't here - we don't think it ever was. Not even the people who work there recognised any screenshots of it. |
| Farleigh Hungerford Castle - Lord of the Trees Inn: | Certainly the exterior for the inn in Robin of Sherwood wasn't used here. If the interior was built on the grounds somewhere, perhaps that is true but we couldn't substantiate this. |
| Great Chalfield Manor - Croxden Abbey interior: | Could neither prove nor disprove. It isn't the chapel that is visible onsite, that's for sure because we went in there. Either it is in the main building (no tours running when we went) or it was never there. |
| Hinton Priory - Exterior for Thornton Abbey: | It isn't there. We asked the owner / custodians when we were allowed to visit and even they didn't recognise the screenshots we showed them. They thought it might have been Lacock exterior from a certain angle. Mystery is this one. |
| Highbury Hill Woods: | Couldn't get there in our time frame. |
| Milton Cutting - Clifftop in Cross of St. Ciricus: | Looked for it but no-one we asked in the area knew where it was. We thought it might be accessed near Wookey Hole but we weren't successful in locating it. |
| Redcliffe Caves - Tunnels in Sheriff of Nottingham: | Closed. Being developed for housing. Forget it. |
| St Mary's Woods: | Couldn't get there in our time frame. |
| Wells Cathedral - Ravenscar Crypt: | This is untrue. The only things are the steps and the upper Chapter room that was used for Swords of Wayland. The only 'crypt' they have at Wells Cathedral is the undercroft which is, according to the custodians and guides, about a foot high and since none of the actors were on their knees during the scenes, we're guessing it wasn't here. Besides, listening to the commentary on the DVD of ROS boxset, they reveal that the crypt was a set (probably at Barton Hill) |
| Vassels Park, Bristol: | Couldn't get there in our time frame. |
